Say hello to "The PJs"
Hey, I recognize that voice: That... that's the infamous Thurgood Stubbs!
Actually, you probably will recognize the voice of Mr. Stubbs because the king of comedy is back
-- Eddie Murphy. In this new "foamation" comedy, Murphy presents a satirical look at urban
family values in the big city "projects" (the PJs). You'll laugh yourself off your Lazy Boy
with Murphy's cracks at cultural stereotypes and notions of political correctness.
THE STORY
As superintendent of the Hilton-Jacobs Projects, Stubbs (Murphy) just wants to be left alone
with his placid wife Muriel (Loretta Devine) and his beloved "Wheel of Fortune." But there's
just never enough time to kick back and relax with a "forty" because of all the tenant
complaints -- not to mention the neighborhood's ongoing soundtrack of wailing police sirens
and discharging semi-automatic weapons.
Muriel is the calming force in Thurgood's life. She always finds the good in a situation, and
she never gets flustered. Perhaps this is due to her obsession with her personal hero, Oprah.
Whatever Oprah does, Muriel does too -- including keeping a journal of Stubbs' mischief.
Although Thurgood and Muriel have no children, they are like surrogate parents to Calvin
(Crystal Scales), a bright 12-year-old who idolizes Thurgood, and his friend Juicy
(Michele Morgan), whose parents who are so overweight they can't fit through the doorway to
their apartment. Together, the foursome tackles the problems of PJs with wit and inefficiency.
